Job Summary: The Project Accountant is responsible for executing project finance and accounting activities to support delivery of a significant EPC project by ensuring accurate financial reporting, cost control, and compliance with contract requirements and company policies. The role partners closely with the Finance & Accounting Manager, Project Controls, and cross-functional teams to provide timely, reliable financial data to support project decision-making and successful project outcomes. Major Responsibilities: Execute and lead project accounting activities, including cost tracking, general ledger, and sub-job financial management to ensure accuracy and data integrity Support monthly close, forecasting, and financial reporting including any required variance analysis Manage and review client and intercompany invoices to ensure compliance with contract terms and supporting documentation requirements Review and process vendor and subcontractor invoices to ensure proper cost coding and alignment with project budgets and commitments Monitor, review and reconcile key accounts (e.g., accruals, receivables, unbilled costs) and resolve variances in a timely manner Partner with Project Controls, Procurement, and Operations to support cost reporting, trends, and identify financial risks Ensure compliance with financial controls, policies, and approval authorities; support audit activities and maintain strong documentation Support project setup and close-out activities, including financial system configuration, reconciliations, and any required account settlements Education and Experience Requirements: Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8 -10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience Required Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of project accounting, including job cost, commitments, and subjob structures Understanding of month-end close, reporting, and reconciliations Experience with billing and unbilled cost tracking Familiarity with accounts payable and P2P processes Ability to analyze financial data and resolve discrepancies Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., Oracle) and Excel Strong attention to detail and analytical skills Effective communication and cross-functional coordination Ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines Sound judgment and understanding of controls/compliance Total Rewards/Benefits: For decades, Bechtel has worked to inspire the next generation of employees and beyond!
